Leave Policies

A leave policy is a set of business rules relating to a particular type of leave that can be applied to one or more locations. At the moment, policies can only be applied to paid annual leave (main holiday) type absence.

The business rules are:

  • default annual allowance/entitlement
  • carry forward allowance
  • is approval required

These rules will be applied:

  • When creating a new employee. When you create a new employee, the default annual allowance for the location in which the employee is based will be applied to that employee.
  • When a new leave year starts. To the extent that an employee does not have an entitlement for a particular year, the default allowance will be applied. In addition, if they have an excess of days remaining, the relevant carry forward rules will be applied.
  • On requesting leave. If approval is not required then no emails/Slack notifications will be sent to the approver.

Example One

In 2021, your employee ends the year with 5 days left. The relevant leave policy for their location has a default allowance of 28 days and a carry forward allowance of 3 days. When creating records for 2022, Leavetrack will generate an allowance of 31 days (28 + 3).

Example Two

In 2021, your employee ends the year with 1 day left. The relevant leave policy for their location has a default allowance of 28 days and a carry forward allowance of 3 days. When creating records for 2022, Leavetrack will generate an allowance of 29 days (28 + 1).
